We will ask several questions, and provide some tentative answers, as to why open content is important for our everyday work, how SlideWiki empowers its creation, and the importance to develop or connect with related communities of practice. The webinar will be an opportunity to establish an interest and further exchange on SlideWiki as a platform of collaboration at work. Link: https://slidewiki.eu/2018/09/03/slidewiki-interview-with-athanasios-priftis-director-of-ynternet-org-at-geneva-switzerland/ Information about the H2020 SlideWiki project (Grant Agreement No 688095) The SlideWiki project, funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation programme under Grant Agreement No 688095, started in 2016 with seventeen partners from Europe and Brazil using the award-winning open-source SlideWiki platform as a basis and aiming at creating a large-scale accessible learning and teaching platform using educational technology, skill recognition and global collaboration. On the SlideWiki platform, presentations, especially open teaching and learning materials, i.e. Open Educational Resources (OER), can be jointly created, edited, updated, changed and accessed. Moreover, SlideWiki is an OpenCourseWare platform for sharing slide decks according to the FAIR data principles. Thus, SlideWiki is revolutionizing authoring, sharing and reusing of OER and OCW online. Given that presentations have become indispensable in our everyday lives, whether at school, in college or at work, the SlideWiki platform, which is the main focus of the SlideWiki project, provides an open-source online platform for collaboratively creating and sharing Open Educational Resources (OER) in the form of presentation slides. Unlike other OER repositories, the SlideWiki platform is designed to ensure the reuse, mixing, and repurpose of OER material and slides, and to help educators gain access to new course materials. SlideWiki combines an online slide creation and presentation tool with a number of interactive features such as comments, ratings, and self-test questions. All content published on SlideWiki is made available under the CC-BY-SA 4.0 Open Creative Commons license, which means that the content can be shared, modified, translated and reused, enabling thus efficient collaboration. In addition, the open-source SlideWiki platform minimizes the effort of creating, translating and developing structured teaching and learning material through crowdsourcing. Similar to Wikipedia for encyclopedic content, SlideWiki enables the collaborative creation of comprehensive OpenCourseWare (OCW) with the objective to semiautomatically translate this content into more than 50 different languages, improving the quality of translations, and supporting engagement and social networking.
