The European Commission has announced a joint call for proposals for indirect RTD actions under the specific programme for research, technological development and demonstration on: - Quality of life and management of living resources (1998 - 2002) - Competitive and sustainable growth (1998 - 2002) - Energy, environment and sustainable development (1998 - 2002) Those eligible to participate in indirect RTD actions under the specific programmes are invited to submit proposals that address Annex III(a) (9) of the work programmes of the above specific programmes. The contracts cover accompanying measures to support the integration of newly-associated states (NAS) into the European Research Area. As a contribution to better integrating the science and technology sector of the NAS into the European Research Area, the objective will be to support a number of outstanding research centres to better put their capabilities at the service of the economic and social needs of these countries, in conformity with the interest of the Union as a whole. This will be done in the first place by improving the links between centres in the NAS and other European centres, for example through networking, exchange, training and twinning arrangements. Deliverables include: - increased networking between centres; - increased scope (regional coverage, subjects, activities) of the centres; - contribution to capacity building through attracting young researchers; - support for economic and social needs of the NAS; - increased links with the economic and social environment of the NAS; - enhanced participation of centres in other areas of the Fifth Framework programme. Budget: - QoL: 10 million euro - Growth: 10 million euro - ESD: 10 million euro - Energy: 10 million euro Call identifier: QoL/Growth/EESD-2001-INTEGRApplications submitted on paper must be sent to: Integration of Newly Associated States (NAS) in the ERA Research Proposals Office Square Frère-Orban/Frère Orbanplein 8 B-1040 Brussels For further information, please contact: Quality of life and management of living resources: Joint NAS Call European Commission DG Research SDME 08/56 Rue de la Loi/Wetstraat 200 B-1049 Brussels E-mail: quality-of-life@ec.europa.eu http://cordis.europa.eu/life Competitive and sustainable growth: Joint NAS Call European Commission DG Research MO75 06/1 Rue de la Loi/Wetsraat 200 B-1049 Brussels E-mail: growth@ec.europa.eu http://cordis.europa.eu/growth Environment and sustainable development: Joint NAS Call European Commission DG Research SDME 07/50 Rue de la Loi/Wetstraat 200 B-1049 Brussels E-mail: eesd@ec.europa.eu http://cordis.europa.eu/eesd Energy: Joint NAS Call European Commission DG Research MO75 06/20 Rue de la Loi/Wetstraat 200 B-1049 Brussels E-mail: eesd@ec.europa.eu http://cordis.europa.eu/eesd
