The CORDIS database "RTD-Projects" provides information about individual activities, contracts and studies undertaken in the framework of Community RTD programmes. RTD-Projects is regularly updated, and already contains much useful information on the majority of projects resulting from the calls for proposals made by the specific RTD programmes within the Third Framework Programme, as well as on other RTD-related programmes and actions. New project records which will be available on the database in the near future include: - Projects accepted following the second call for proposals issued by the ESPRIT III programme; - The results of the second call for proposals issued by LIBRARIES (Area 5 of the specific programme of research and technological development in the field of telematics systems in areas of general interest, 1990-1994); - AIR (agriculture and agro-industrial research, 1991-1994) projects resulting from the first call issued by this programme, including descriptions of each project plus contact details and partner information; - Further information on CRAFT (the Cooperative Research Action for Technology) projects, together with details of projects recently funded; - Information on the projects undertaken by the fifth programme of ergonomics for the ECSC industries, plus updates and new projects from the ECSC's programmes in steel research and steel pilot and demonstration projects; - New COST actions (European Cooperation in the field of Scientific and Technical Research), together with the most up-to-date information on existing projects; - A revision and update of existing database information on EUROTECNET, the Community action programme to promote innovation in the field of vocational training resulting from technological change (1990-1994) together with new entries covering recent projects; - APAS-COSU (cooperation with Belarus, the Ukraine and the Russian Federation in the field of nuclear emergency management and environmental issues) collaborative actions; - Full information on all projects completed under the JOULE I programme (the specific programme of RTD in the field of energy, non-nuclear energies and rational use of energy, 1989-1992) under the Second Framework Programme. In addition, descriptive texts are already available for many more of the existing RTD-Projects records. These set out the objectives of the project and include the title, starting date and duration, the project's status, the name of the prime contractor plus a listing of the partners and contact persons, and additional information. The database has been extensively updated to ensure the currency of records (such as contact details and phone numbers). Updates take place, and new records are added, when information concerning ongoing or new projects becomes available to CORDIS. RTD-Projects provides a rapid guide to RTD projects financed wholly or partly by the European Communities from 1986 to the present, and also covers initiatives, studies and demonstrations not necessarily involving contracts but benefiting from Community financing or coordination. A DG XIII publication, the "Catalogue of Research Projects in the Third Framework Programme", contains data taken from the RTD-Projects database. This 440-page catalogue is intended for those who do not require on-line access to CORDIS, or simply as a useful reference work. In order to keep the catalogue to manageable size, only the basic data is included on each project. The database itself holds more information and, in addition, can be searched for key words, so that it is straightforward to identify projects in particular research areas or topics.
