A Council Decision of 20 June 1991 (91/341/EEC) establishing a multiannual Community action programme for the vocational training of customs officials of national administrations (MATTHAEUS) intends to improve the efficiency of the Customs Union and to prepare customs officials for the implications of the internal market. Measures shall include exchanges of officials between national administrations, training seminars, the implementation of common vocational training programmes in Member State's customs schools, and the organization of language training courses. Details of these measures are set forth in an annex. Expenses shall be shared by the Member States and the Commission. The Decision is applicable from 1 January 1991.
