Council Regulation (EEC) No 3907/91 of 19 December 1991 on action by the Community relating to nature conservation (ACNAT) provides for the granting of Community support for projects contributing to the maintenance or re-establishment of biotopes which are the habitat of endangered species and to measures aimed at conserving or re-establishing endangered species (other than birds). The Community will contribute an estimated amount of ECU 50 million for the implementation of the projects. Applications for financial support shall be sent to the Commission by the Member States. In exceptional circumstances, and in agreement with the Member State or States concerned, the Commission may take the initiative of proposing certain measures. The Regulation applies for two years, from 1 January 1992. Annex I lists the types of natural habitats and animal and vegetable species of Community interest. Annex II sets forth the particulars to be supplied in applications for support.
