PARAMETRIZATION OF LAND SURFACE FLUXES FOR CLIMATE MODELLING

Objective

TO DEVELOP METHODS FOR PARAMETERIZATION OF FEEDBACKS BETWEEN LAND-SURFACE PROCESSES AND CLIMATE.

1. ADAPTATION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF A BOUNDARY-LAYER MODEL WITH THE PARAMETERIZATION OF VEGETATION FOR THE SIMULATION OF LAND-SURFACE PROCESSES.

2. PARTICIPATION IN AN EXPERIMENT IN CRAU, S.FRANCE IN ORDER TO DEVELOP AND COMPARE APPROPRIATE MEASURING METHODS AND TO CALIBRATE THE INSTRUMENTS.

3. DEFINITION OF AN EXPERIMENTAL PROGRAMME FOR THE INVESTIGATION OF INTERACTION BETWEEN THE PROCESSES OF DESERTIFICATION AND EROSION AND THE CLIMATE TAKING THE LAND-USE METHODS USED IN SOUTHERN EUROPE INTO ACCOUNT.
THE ONE DIMENSIONAL MODEL OF NCAR WILL BE ADAPTED IN BERLIN FOR THE SIMULATION OF LAND-SURFACE PROCESSES.
DURING THE CRAU EXPERIMENT IN JUNE 1987, RADIATION AND HEAT FLUXES IN THE BOUNDARY-LAYER WILL BE MEASURED AND USED TO TEST THE MODEL. DURING 1988 THE STUDY WOULD BE FOCUSSED ON THE INVESTIGATION OF PROCESSES IN THE AREAS WHICH ARE AFFECTED BY DROUGHT AND EXTENSIVE LAND-USE. IN ORDER TO LOCALIZE THOSE AREAS, IN WHICH LAND-SURFACE PROCESSES PRODUCE A 'SIGNAL', SATELLITE DATA WILL BE ANALYSED.
