Distributed inter-regional agritourism multimedia management system

Objective

The DIAMMS project will develop advanced telematic services for Agritourism. Basic booking telematic services proved successful in several French locations. The further development of systems, using advanced multi-media systems, will help to develop rural tourism and will also help to market regional products. Diamms will be original in that the most modern technology will be used to provide new products that can be used in the industry.

At present, tourism promotional services are based on low cost videotex terminals but the DIAMMS will enable those services to be expanded into:

- Image manipulations to provide end users with access maps, site plans, photographs,
- use of Cd/video clips to provide attractive descriptions of accommodations and leisure offered to the client,
- attractive catalogues of regional products,
- inter-regional information exchange through network which will enable cross regional inquiry and booking.

DIAMMS will provide a first step advanced system with static high definition drawings and a more advanced system with photo- quality images. Systems will be installed in each of the three countries involved in this project with public access terminals with multimedia functions.

The market impact will be evaluated (connections and successful transactions) with a view to its possible adoption on a wide scale.

Expected Results

The collaboration of public and private organisations within DIAMMS, and the market-oriented approach, will encourage other agencies or organisations promoting Agritourism to join.

DIAMMS will disseminate knowledge about the limits and advantages of this technology and will develop the skills to implement new systems.
