Objective The general aim of the CODE-TEN project is to assist with decision-making in the complex environment of contemporary transport geography characterised by the new concept of 'corridor'. It will provide a comprehensive strategic assessment methodology that can apply to corridors and will seek to identify and present major policy-related issues and the associated scenarios and assumptions in a consistent way. %The specific objectives of the study will be: (a) To compile policy-relevant information and data on transport corridor and TEN developments (including extensions to the CEEC/CIS) in a longer-term perspective; (b) using this information to update, correct and elaborate existing scenarios on infrastructure development and transport policy scenarios; elaborate comparable parameters concerning the spatial, temporal and socio-economic impacts of corridor developments in the greater European area under study; and to compile relevant (spatial) environmental impacts and indicators; (c) subsequently, to define a comprehensive methodology to be used for the assessment of transport policies and larger projects, namely networks and corridors, and which is compatible with SEA; (d) on the basis of the application of this methodology, to define and develop policy assistance tools (presented in a report/manual and an interactive computer programme) for assessing interactions between policy instruments and corridor/network developments.Corridor Case StudiesSt. Petersburg--Helsinki-Stockholm-Copenhagen;Warsaw-Riga-Tallinn-Helsinki 'Via Baltica';Berlin-Warsaw-Minsk-Moscow-Nizhny Novgorod;Danube waterway;Berlin-Prague-Vienna-Budapest-Sofia-Constanta/Thessaloniki;Salzburg-Ljubljana-Zagreb-Beograd-Thessaloniki;Venice-Triest/Koper-Budapest-Kiev;Mediterranean short-sea shipping;Lisbon-Madrid-Paris; %CODE-TEN will seek to elaborate links and integrate input from a number of other projects or fora, namely, TENASSESS, EUNET, COMMUTE, SAMI, ASTRA, STREAMS, SCENARIOS, IQ, INFRAMED (of the Transport Programme) as well as with TINA, TEM and TER, PHARE, ITIS and CETIR and EUROSTAT.
