Objective The main objective of the PROMOTIQ project is to identify the opportunities and the barriers for actors to evolve towards a new generation of door-to-door transport services and to propose guidelines for their promotion and their establishment in the market. The aim of a new generation of services and operators is to reduce friction costs, to favour modal integration and logistics operations along a chain and to improve quality performance. Many variables identified as fundamental barriers to intermodal transport promotion refer to technical, commercial, operational, social and legal/institutional conditions. To achieve the general and partial objectives of the project, a workplan with 5 workpackages - plus a WP0 which summarises the activities required by project management - has been established. Workpackage 1 will describe the existing forms of intermodal chains composition and the types of actors involved, in relation to the current trends in the transport market. Workpackage 2 will examine the opportunities for the emergence of a new generation of intermodal services and operators. Workpackage 3 will examine the barriers for actors to the promotion of new intermodal services and operators; it will respectively study barriers at the commercial, social, technical, operational and legal/regulatory levels. Workpackage 4, based on the results of the previous Workpackages, will clearly define types of new intermodal services and operators, and guidelines for their promotion within an implementation plan. Finally, Workpackage 5 will organise the dissemination of results. %. %Important links exist with other projects of the section "Integrated Transport Chains" of the Transport Workprogramme. The proposed project is fully complementary with LOGIQ - the decision making process in intermodal transport, IQ (Intermodal Quality). In developing its activities, the project considers also cooperation with two other projects selected within the 3rd Call of the 4th Framework Programme: QUATRE MAINS for the decision-making process in the industry and APRICOT.
