Objective The "Ferritic Rolling" practice is very well suited for processing different products. The production of low cost CQ grades from low C steel is already under control. However, it appears clearly, from laboratory scale simulation, that a very efficient lubrication in the HSM is needed in order to improve quality, to extend production to DQ or DDQ and to develop new grades. The aim of the project is to develop and test a hot rolling lubrication strategy in order to improve the mechanical properties of the steel products after hot rolling at low temperature in the "ferrite" region. Fundamental and complementary aspects of product and process developments will be covered in this project. As far as the process is concerned, the plan includes the development of the lubrication strategy in order to decrease the friction coefficient to very low values. Concerning the products, the effect of the new lubrication strategy will be assessed on products (ULC-IF), not rolled in the ferrite region.
