Exploitable results Compatible electronic catalogues Integrating information technology (IT) and manufacturing requires the capacity to model, generate, exchange and manage intelligent electronic catalogues of preexisting components for the design, manufacture and operation of other products. Such catalogues need to support component selection, must be based on a common information model to facilitate integration, and need to be able to generate any discipline specific representation of the components (eg 3-dimensional shape, simulation model). The PLUS project has developed an exchange format, in a hypertext markup language (HTML) environment, for such catalogues, disseminated it through international standardization (ISO 13584: Parts Library), and validated it through a complete set of preindustrial tools able to generate, exchange and operate intelligent electronic catalogues for manufacturing and engineering.
