The Commission of the European Communities (DG XVII) calls for project proposals for a targeted project in the field of coal utilization for the ECSC technical coal research programme. The programme operates on an annual basis and projects for the 1993 have already been selected. However, to complement this year's actions and to help meet important technical and environmental requirements for the clean and efficient utilization of coal, the Commission intends to grant aid to one additional targeted project on a specific subject related to integrated gasification combined cycle systems for power generation. Applications for financial aid are therefore invited for a collaborative project concerning the cleaning of liquid effluents from coal gasification. The research project should concern the removal, by chemical oxidation, of hydrogen cyanide (after preliminary removal of hydrogen sulphide) from liquid effluents arising from the gasification of coal for advanced power generation systems. The treatment process should be investigated on the technical scale and should involve the study of real effluents from pilot or larger scale gasification plants. The maximum amount of aid available for the project is expected to be of the order of ECU 2 million and the duration of the work should be two to four years. Applications must be sent to: Commission of the European Communities DG XVII (D/2) 200 rue de la Loi B-1049 Brussels
