A very important feature of CORDIS is the ongoing process of regular quality checks and updating of the databases. A recent milestone was achieved by a significant update and extension of the CORDIS RTD-Projects database. RTD-Projects now covers more than 25,000 projects carried out within Community-funded programmes. Of these projects, all those falling under the Third Framework Programme have been updated and the last ones to be signed have been added to the database. A few preparatory projects under the Fourth Framework Programme have also been inserted. Both updates and new records derive mainly from the full delivery of Ampere, the internal database of DG XII. It contains all the contracts for scientific research projects of the Commission. of the newly added projects, the following programmes are covered: - Third Framework Programme: . Human capital and mobility (HCM); . Science and technology for development (STD III); . Marine sciences and technology (MAST II); . Environment and climate; . Measurements and testing (BCR V); - Other EU related programmes: . International scientific cooperation; . International cooperation with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe; . AVICENNE; - Newly added programmes (preparatory projects): . EU preparatory action on renewable energies (RENA). Of interest are the 70 new projects of the RENA programme, which started on 1 January 1995. The aim of RENA is to prepare certain themes in the field of renewable energies in support of the implementation of the specific programme on non-nuclear energies under the Fourth Framework Programme. Recently, 18 projects in the area of telematics were added to RTD-Projects. These are exploratory actions covering certain fields of telematics R&D in preparation for the specific programme on Telematics Applications under the Fourth Framework Programme. Projects from the SAVE programme for the promotion of energy efficiency in the Community, 1991-1995, will soon be available on RTD-Projects. These are designed to achieve a more rational use of energy through improved energy efficiency with a view to procuring more secure conditions of energy supply in the Community and to reducing the negative impact of energy on the environment.
