The European Commission, DG XIII, has published a report entitled "Desertification in a European context: physical and socio-economic aspects". The report collects the proceedings of the European School of Climatology and Natural Hazards course on desertification held in El Campello, Spain, in October 1993. It includes research papers from both staff and students on the subject. The European School of Climatology and Natural Hazards was founded in 1988 under the Community's specific research programme in the field of the environment 1989-1992 (EPOCH). Subjects covered in the report include: - Physical and biological processes; - Socio-economic processes and impacts; - Methods in desertification research; - Measures to combat desertification; - Policy formulation and implementation.
