Objective To verify the feasibility of a submerged wave dampener for protecting offshore equipment.Tank tests on a model have shown that wave attenuation over 60% can be achieved.Various applications can be envisaged:- protection of installation sites.- protection of loading buoys.-stabilisation or protection of semisubmersible platforms.- electricity production by using a turbine. The dampener consists of two caissons equipped with flexible valves opening one way, either inwards or outwards, so as to establish water circulation between one caisson and another, dissipating energy by turbulence.
