THE INSTALLATION OF A SMALL HYDROELECTRIC GENERATING UNIT IN A WATER SUPPLY CANAL

Objective

The installation of a tubular turbine/generating unit in a water supply aqueduct. The anticipated annual energy output is 4,170,000 KWh and the unit cost of energy production is 3. 32 Drs/KWh.

The installation of a small hydroelectric generating unit in the Mornos - Athens aqueduct is expected to take advantage of the relatively constant water flow therein. The design parameters of the unit are as follows;

Flow 7. 3 m3/s
Output 600 kW
Speed 400 rev/min
Type Tubular
Generator Rating 700 kVA
Voltage 400 V, 50 Hz, 3 phase.
Type Asynchronous
The electricity produced will be connected to the grid at 20 kV.
