Application of GISBase in a Geographic Information System

Objective

The main goal of the application experiment is to apply, to test and to evaluate the new method and new tools (GISBase), which support development of the graphical user interface and database in a geographic information system. The produced information systems are portable to various platforms.

The task of application experiment is to transfer the required know-how, to develop standards for efficient utilisation, prepare procedures for projects personnel education and training, to establish and maintain the development environment and to support these tools during the main project.

Objectives of the application experiment are:

- transfer of the know-how of the method and tools
- establish the development environment
- standards and instructions for applying the method and tools in development
- organised support function with required skills
- plan, material and procedures for skill-transfer to the main project personnel
- to support the main project during its execution
- to measure and analyse impacts of the method and tools (quality and productivity)
- to produce reports on the experience and results for further use
The GISBase software architecture and development tools are aimed for graphic user interfaces, for rapid interactive graphics and for applications with purely relational data bases. The architecture and tools fit especially to GIS (Geographic Information System) and CAD/CAE applications. They have successfully been applied also to real-time, control-command type applications (for example the operation control of an electric network) and many other areas. The crucial requirement for such architecture is the independency of hardware, operating system and data management environments.
