Framework for Management and Design of Multimedia Applications in Education and Training

Objective

The main objective of the application experiment is the adaptation and integration of state-of-the art methodologies and tools for s/w engineering practice, for the purpose of improving the current process of software development in the area of educational and training mmedia applications.

The 'experiment' (the base line activity of the application experiment) will be the development of a mmedia title that will be carried out with the collaboration of two of the proposing organizations (FIRST and LRF). The 'experiment' will implement a multimedia title on Byzantine Art and serve as an electronic library for English speaking users (See Appendix for detailed description).

We are interested in integrating state-of-the-art methodologies and tools for most phases of s/w design and development. Nevertheless, we plan to emphasize requirement analysis and specification, design, quality assurance, project management and review and evaluation. In our objectives we include dissemination and transferability of experience and results. A small-scale experiment is planned to adopt carefully selected parts of the application experiment to a different environment, that of the Benaki Museum (BM). For dissemination and transferability we have also established a small Special Interest Group (SIG), co-ordinated by BM, whose role is detailed in other sections of this proposal. SIG members include a major mass media organization, a financial organization group of companies (bank, insurance, mutual funds etc.), a university, etc., while other candidates are also considered.
