Objective Plintecost 10-90 aims on better understanding between people that use different languages. Within the framework of this project the partners will provide a translation tool that can easily be used in international trade, science and exchange of knowledge in general. Based on easy accessible, existing software, machine translation will be accelerated. The quality of the translation is closely related to basic information technology and the programme is able to cope with new developments. As agriculture and food technology are major economic sectors in each country, the project focuses on the support of the implementation of machine translation in SME's and education in these sectors. The partners in the project all have their roots in linguistic, IT and agricultural backgrounds. Individually and jointly they will give demonstrations to target groups making sure that new developments meet the needs of these groups. Depending on the feasibility and need of end-users the partners will work extensively on the development of subject dictionaries to improve (draft) translations. A self sustainable translation service will (on-line) provide draft or 100 % correct translations at a much lower price than at present. This enhances communication , will give a push to the exchange of knowledge and trade in the profession. It also may help to maximise information exchange between responsible bodies in the agro-food dealing with issues like BSE, pig disease or the prevention of salmonella infections.Documentation will be more accessible when people can read the information in their own language. In future with 10 % of the conventional efforts a 90 % correct result will be produced by Plintecost 10-90. A 100 % correct output can be obtained more easily by using such a high quality draft translation.
