Final Report Summary - IRFOS (Integration of European food safety research from producers to consumers)

The ultimate aim of the IRFOS conference was to review the results obtained during the Fifth and Sixth Framework Programmes (FP5 and FP6) in the field of food quality and safety. The main objective of this review was to contribute to the preparation of the next call for proposals of the FP6, as well as provide recommendations for the set-up of the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7).

The conference was divided in four sessions covering the following thematic areas:
- microbiological risks in the food chain: bacteria, viruses, parasites;
- chemical risks in the food chain: contaminants, ingredients and additives, novel foods;
- nutritional benefits and risk communication in the food chain;
- detection and traceability in the food chain.
