The CORDIS database "RTD-Projects" provides information about individual activities, contracts and studies within Community RTD programmes, and identifies the organizations involved. RTD-Projects is regularly updated, and already contains information on the majority of projects resulting from the first calls for proposals made by the specific RTD programmes within the Third Framework Programme. Most recently a large number of new project records have been added, particularly dealing with new contracts under the programmes BRITE/EURAM II, COMETT II, and ICPECO (International Cooperation with Central and Eastern European Countries). New IMPACT II records have also been created for projects in the areas of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Interactive Multimedia Systems. In addition descriptive texts are now available for many more of the already existing records, particularly those concerning JOULE II and MAST II, as well as more details on STEP and Radiation Protection projects. These set out the objectives of the project and include further useful information. The database has also been extensively updated to ensure the currency of the records (such as contact details and phone numbers). Records are updated and new records added as soon as information concerning ongoing or new projects becomes available to CORDIS. This information includes the title, a summary of objectives, starting date and duration, the project's status, the name of the prime contractor plus a listing of the partners and contact persons. RTD-Projects provides a rapid guide to RTD projects financed wholly or partly by the European Communities from 1986 to the present. The database also covers initiatives, studies and demonstrations not necessarily involving contracts but benefiting from Community financing or coordination.
