The European Commission adopted the 1994 operational budget for the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC) on 21 December 1993. In part taking into account the opinion of the European Parliament, the Commission modified its original proposal with regard to aid for coal research, increasing this support from ECU 10 million to ECU 17 million. The budget for social actions was also increased by ECU 5 million. To balance these additional sums, the interest rate subsidy for reconversion activities has been reduced from ECU 65 million to ECU 53 million. The total budget for 1994 is set at ECU 393 million, with an ECSC levy of 0.23%, as in the Commission's initial proposal.
