LORAN-C radio-navigation system: Amended proposal
An amendment to the proposal for a Council Decision on the LORAN-C radio-navigation system (COM(91) 445, submitted on 20.11.1991) sets out eleven amendments to the original proposal (COM(91) 1, published in OJ No C 53 of 28.2.1991). Inter alia, the title of the proposal is changed to "Proposal for a Council Decision on radio-navigation systems for Europe". In general, the amendments tend to replace references to "LORAN-C systems" in favour of "radio-navigation systems", so underlining the possibility of pursuing options other than, or in conjunction with, that offered by LORAN-C as discussed in the introduction and annexes to COM(90) 1. Amendments also place emphasis on the requirement for radio-navigation configurations which cover the widest possible geographical area in Europe and neighbouring waters, plus the setting up of a radio-navigation plan to take into account the development of satellite navigation systems, existing terrestrial systems, and the radio-navigation plans of the Member States.
