Participation of Czech Republic in EU education, training and youth programmes
The Association Council between the European Communities and the Czech Republic, meeting on 30 September 1997, adopted a Decision concerning the participation of the Czech Republic in Community programmes in the fields of education, training and youth. The Commission presented proposals in March 1997 to open up the SOCRATES, LEONARDO DA VINCI and "Youth for Europe" programmes to participation from a number of Central and Eastern European countries. Over 300,000 young Europeans participate in these programmes every year, and this Decision will allow young Czechs to participate on, essentially, the same terms as citizens of EU Member States. The Decision sets out the terms and conditions for Czech participation in the programmes, and also lays down the financial contributions to the programmes' budgets to be made by the Czech Republic. These contributions will be as follows: - LEONARDO DA VINCI: ECU 2.6 million each year from 1997; - SOCRATES: ECU 3.3 million in 1997, and ECU 5.2 million in 1998 and 1999 (The ERASMUS strand of SOCRATES will not be open to Czech participation in 1997); - Youth for Europe: ECU 600,000 each year from 1997. The Decision entered into force on 1 October 1997.
