Descrizione del progetto

eInclusion

BenToWeb is a project within the Web Accessibility Benchmarking (WAB) Cluster aimed to support the European public and private sector to implement the recommendations of the eEurope 2005 Action Plan by providing new software modules and methodologies that satisfy some of the accessibility recommendations of the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), which are not analysed by existing tools due to their inherent complexity.

Support WAI in the improvement of the Evaluation and Repair Language (EARL) and the activities of the Evaluation and Repair Tools Working Group to be able to cope with large scale evaluations and complex statistical analysis.\tTo support WAI in the development of the second generation of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines by providing implementations and testing methodologies for selected technologies, e.g. XHTML2, SVG, SMIL, etc. To cross-validate current and future versions of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines against user-based evaluation and expert-based testing. To support the development of technology-specific techniques documents.\tTo enhance existing usability standards and methodologies to include accessibility.\tTo produce Open Source frameworks and APIs for Evaluation and Repair tools that will allow end-users to produce customisable testing procedures and to produce complementary tests.\tTo support harmonisation efforts of W3C with national and international standardisation bodies. To support harmonisation of testing methodologies, especially for large-scale Web sites and new mobile applications.\tTo support localisation issues of the accessibility recommendations by providing common glossaries and research on different policy environments.\tTo investigate the feasibility of automatic testing procedures that include issues like colour-contrast, colour-blindness and low-vision.\tTo include modern language technology from Computer linguistics for controlling syntactic-semantic properties of documents as required by given guidelines.
