Objective The quality of service provided by ATM networks makes it possible to develop advanced applications for the industry which will be highly disseminated.The co-operative design of tyres will be promoted by providing the design teams, who are located in Italy and Germany, the capability to share both their CAD software sessions and their design data bases. The designers will be able to have video conferences with the most recent tools enhancing the co-operation (white board, desktop application sharing, training courses, video data base of seminars and demonstrations) with their distant colleagues. The objective is to give to these distant teams all the means to share experience and expertise by replacing the phone and fax by the added value capabilities of the fast transmission of sound and pictures.The second activities include the results of a second baseline project which consists of developing a demonstrator of a multi-media platform (including a video server) for the distant training of the users of complex simulation tools such as those used by the operators of nuclear power plants, but also designers of thermoplastics parts.This platform will also be applied to the dissemination of video courses and for the consultancy of experts.
