High throughput analysis of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) for the forensic identification of persons

Obiettivo

SNPs have several properties that make them suitable for forensic DNA analysis. The main aim is to design and validate micro arrays for SNP typing for the high-throughput forensic identification of individuals. Three typing platforms have been selected including matrix assisted time-of-flight mass spectrometry, conventional spotting micro-arrays on glass slides and electronically activated micro arrays. Different multiplexing amplification strategies and methods to increase the accuracy of SNP typing as well as their potential efficiency in forensic casework scenarios will be explored. This will be achieved by dividing the tasks into four work packages addressing SNP selection, PCR multiplex design, micro array technology assessment, and forensic applications. Deliverables will include a panel of 50 SNPs with high efficiency in forensic genetics, and the development of one typing system for each of the three micro array platforms.
