Joint proposals of European researchers and Delft hydraulics

Objetivo

During this project, the Delft Hydraulics facilities were used by some 55 researchers from 9 EU Member States, for a total of 660 research days, 12 research projects have been completed.

Two of these projects are of significance for the European oil industry as the results are important for the design of offshore structures.

Project funding allowed the upgrading of the sand flume to investigate super-critical flow conditions and the installation of spectra-photo-fluorometer.

The annular flume is used to study mud deposition and erosion in an environment that is not hampered by effects caused by a limited flume length.

The oscillating water tunnel is used to investigate the influence of wave orbital velocities on the behaviour of bed material and of sand above the bed.
The delta flume is a medium-sized wave flume for the study of many kinds of phenomena in relation to both regular and irregular wave fields.
The wind-wave flume enables the study of mechanically generated and/or wind generated waves in combination with water currents.

The multi-directional wave basin allows the generation of realistic swells and sea states.

The test rig for check valves allows the dynamic testing of check values ranging from 300 mm to 800 mm and for the calibration of flow meters up to a diameter of 2000 mm.
