Objective Project MTR 016 describes programmes of measurements in Europe and the USA aimed at determining the discharge coefficients of orifice plate meters used for the metering of natural gas, hydrocarbons, water and industrial products. As a result of this work a new empirical equation relating flow rate to the differential pressure across an orifice plate meter has been developed and is currently being incorporated in national and international standards. However, the measurements were performed on meters whose diameters were in the range 50-250 mm, which means that there has been no check upon the validity of the equation for the meters of 600 mm and above used for the fiscal metering of natural gas and oil. This is the purpose of this project. RESULTS The programme has been completed and the data used to finalise the discharge coefficient equation developed under project MTR 016.
