Obiettivo The objectives of project PREPARE are: - Definition of an inter-domain communication management architecture required to support the creation and control of end-to-end user services, including the specification of interfaces, protocols and managed objects.- Investigation of the relationship between service and network management, for example in a MAN environment.- Specification and implementation of a communications management demonstrator providing a realistic environment for testing services and interfaces.- Standardisation of the inter-domain management interfaces.- Use of AIP techniques in the implementation of communications management. The main objectives of project PREPARE were:the definition of an interdomain communication management architecture to support the creation and control of end to end user services, including the specification of interfaces, protocols and managed objects;the investigation of the relationship between service and network management, for example in a metropolitan area network (MAN) environment;the specification and implementation of a communications management demonstrator providing a realistic environment for testing services and interfaces;the standardization of interdomain management interfaces;the use of advanced information processing (AIP) techniques in the implementation of communications management. The project aims to achieve a demonstrator with scenarios giving an understanding of the interworking problems which have to be solved in order to provide and manage end to end connectivity in a heterogeneous broadband environment. One of the selected scenarios will address virtual private networks, their definition, dynamic set up and management. The demonstrator will be implemented using both advanced techniques and conventional methods implemented on available products.Technical Approach In order to provide customers with flexible connectivity of services spanning LAN/MAN/WAN networks, it is necessary to have well defined co-operation between separate management systems. This in turn needs well defined interfaces and an architecture that allows information exchange across these interfaces. In PREPARE, an initial activity will be to identify and specify communication interfaces between management systems. An information model will be built to allow the structural definition of management entities and information exchange across management domains. The suitability of various AIP techniques will be explored, and recommendations made, during the implementation phase. PREPARE is using existing LAN and WAN management techniques / software as building blocks for defining and constructing the necessary infrastructure for inter-domain management in an IBC environment. Management scenarios have been defined using realistic user applications as a basis. These scenarios are executed on the prototype in order to validate the architectural concepts and management software developed within PREPARE. Key Issues - Virtual private network, definition and realisation.- Modelling of management information exchange across heterogeneous domains.- Demonstration of interworking using prototypes. Expected Impact The results of PREPARE will be a significant contribution to the introduction of diverse connectivity services in the heterogeneous IBC environment. The intensive use of co-operating TMN platforms solving the inter-domain management problem will provide valuable practical experience and validated concepts which may become the model for end-to-end inter-domain management of the Trans European IBC. Each of the partners in the project has definite plans to use the results of PREPARE to expedite their introduction of inter-operable management products to the market place.
