Ultrasonic agglomeration of aerosols (901)

Objectif

The objectives of the work are:

To launch a closer collaboration with external contractors and prepare the transfer to industry of expertise and equipment for the ultrasonic agglomeration of aerosols.
Successful performance has been made of static experiments of aerosol agglomeration by means of ultrasound in 0.6 cubic metre, 2 cubic metre, 15 cubic metre, and 170 cubic metre test chambers. A dynamic test rig has been constructed and first successful experiments of acoustic aerosol agglomeration in a moving atmosphere have been made.
Expected outcomes are:

Specification and construction of a small test facility for the characterisation and optimisation of Acoustic treatment chambers;
Sound attenuation measurements in air at high intensities and in the presence of aerosols;
Optimisation of the agglomeration rate for different geometries of chamber and sound source;
Preparation of a joint research project of ITU Karlsruhe and the Institute for Acoustics Madrid, with industry (ENDESA/Spain, ASINEL/Spain, Rothemuehle/Germany);
Execution of a joint research project with ENDESA, ASINEL and Rothemuehle.
