Efficient Resource Constrained Cryptography

Final Report Summary - ERCC (Efficient Resource Constrained Cryptography)

The central objective of the ERCC project was to initiate an overarching formal treatment of cryptographic solutions on small, resource constrained devices, particularly focusing on efficiency. The main conceptual novelty was to follow the concept of provable security.
The main results of the ERCC project include the highly efficiency encryption scheme KYBER and the signatures schemes DILITHIUM, whose security is provably related to breaking certain well studied problems over lattices. We were furthermore able to solve the long standing open problem of constructing an encryption scheme over general cyclic groups whose security is tightly related to standard Diffie-Hellman assumptions. At a conceptual level, the project also proposed several generic models of computation that allow for a simple and meaningful security analysis of cryptographic protocols in this context.
