The Commission has submitted a proposal (COM(90) 467) for a Council Decision in amendment to Decision 87/569/EEC of 1 December 1987 by which the Council adopted a five-year action programme for the vocational training of young people and their preparation for adult and working life (PETRA). The proposal sets forth measures to extend the programme for three years from 1 January 1992 with an estimated total appropriation of ECU 177.4 million. Targeting in particular the need to guarantee adequate vocational training for all, the proposed actions will complement both the deployment of the European Social Fund in support of vocational training and the creation of the Community initiative EUROFORM to provide new resources for transnational cooperation and exchanges.
