The European Commission, DG XII, has published a report outlining the results of a study on the "Evaluation and analysis of the technological transfers generated by the programmes EURAM, BRITE and BRITE/EURAM I". The report analyses the concept of technological transfers within the context of these three programmes and the success of the RTD projects funded in generating such transfers. The results of the evaluation carried out show that the four sectors responsible for generating the most technological transfers are the automobile, material processing, machine tool/mechanical engineering and electricity/electronics sectors. They also reveal that big firms generate three times more indirect technological transfers (TTs) than other partners, at the same level (SMEs and university laboratories and research centres). The report provides an overview of the process of TT generation and factors influencing it, looking, among other things, at country by country results and the influence of internal management and organizational factors.
