Code of Good Practice for Farm Animal Breeding and Reproduction

Final Report Summary - CODE-EFABAR (Code of good practice for farm animal breeding and reproduction)

The CODE-EFABAR project aimed to address the issues of food safety and public health, product quality, genetic diversity, efficiency, environmental impact, animal health, animal welfare, as well as breeding and reproduction technologies. The code provided a transparent presentation of the conduct principles of farm animal breeders, and turned these principles to practical rules of conduct.

Amongst the main objectives of the project was to become the standard instrument for defining and maintaining good practices for farm animal breeding, as well as to create transparency for the public. The code was divided into three parts, namely general statements, sustainability and technologies.

The sustainability section of the code specified six key subjects, namely food safety and public health, product quality, genetic diversity, efficiency, environment, animal health and welfare. The technology section of the code specified two key subjects, namely breeding and reproduction.
