Evaluation of pressure In coke ovens by theoretical and experimental studies of coal permeability

Objetivo

It is proposed to develop a mathematical model, based on work a already carried out, to predict the pressures occurring in a coke oven and the quality of the coke produced from experimental permeability measurements.

These permeability measurements, obtained from measurements of the pressure loss of a constant flow of gas through the coal sample, will be made on a suitably modified, small heated oven. Tests will first be carried out on single coals and, then, a number of coal blends will be tested to verify the possibility of making predictions by adding the results on the separate components of the blend. Some of these coal blends will then be tested on pilot ovens to compare the results of the forecast from the mathematical model with the measured pressure and coke quality data. Measurements of moisture, volatile matter, ash, fluidity, dilation, grain size distribution and reflectance will be carried out on all the single coals and coat blends tested. Finally, it is hoped to use the model developed to predict the pressure obtained in some Industrial cocking cycles by inserting the relevant process and coal charge data into the model.
