Broadband User/Network Interface Demonstrator

Objetivo

The main objective of the BUNI (Broadband User/Network Interface) Demonstrator is to assist in the development of the BUNI specification by producing hardware for interfaces at TB reference point, to a common standard. The BUNI Demonstrator has been integrated including terminals, Customer Premises Networks, Customer Access Connections and broadband switches. It allows the demonstration of IBC applications in the business, the domestic and the broadcast studio environments.
The BUNI (broadband user network interface) demonstrator has been designed to assist in the development of the BUNI specification by producing hardware for interfaces at the TB reference point, to a common standard. The BUNI demonstrator included terminals, customer premises networks, customer access connections and broadband switches. It allowed the demonstration of integrated broadcast communications (IBC) applications in business, domestic and broadcast studio environments.

A major achievement has been the production of an implementable TB interface specification based on RACE common functional specifications and CCITT recommendations including the concept of service components and appropriate signalling protocols. Testing and evaluation was achieved by the use of test tools from other RACE projects.

Network elements have been used in the TRIBUNE project to provide an asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) testbed. Developments can be turned into commercial products by the manufacturing partners. Network operators will transfer the findings into their national concepts for the introduction of ATM in the public network domain. Test equipment providers have gained the know-how to further develop tools for verification of network performance or conformance tests.
Impact

Network elements from the project will be used in the TRIBUNE project R2081 with the main objective being to provide an ATM testbed. Results of developments can be turned into commercial products by the manufacturing partners in the project. Network operator partners will transfer BUNI findings into their national concepts for the introduction of ATM in the public network domain. Test equipment providers have gained the know-how to further develop tools for verification of network performance or conformance tests.
