SOLAR WATER AND SPACE HEATING WITH AUXILIARY COMBINED HEAT AND POWER FOR A SMALL GROUP OF HOUSES

Objetivo

The overall aim of the project is to make optimum use of solar energy with the aid of short-term water storage. It is also intended to conserve the auxiliary fuel, gas, by producing primary electricity and using the waste heat for space and water heating. The thermal efficiency of the combined solar and gas systems is further raised by distributing excess heat to additional dwellings .
The scheme will be carefully monitored both for performance and costs-in-use. It is also hoped to obtain some feed-back from tenants as to satisfaction and maintenance.
Expected energy saving 12 TOE per year; payback 20 years.

An active space and water heating system using evacuated tube collectors and short term storage in an 8 m3 tank, linked with a gas engine generating electricity and supplementary heating principally for Winter use by a group of 16 dwellings.
The main innovation is the combination of active solar space and water heating with gas engine CHP unit for a group of houses.
The innovation of supplying excess heat to partial users of a solar system is also being extended for the first time to the linked solar/CHP system.
