The SAVE programme has established national contact points in each of the Member States, who can provide information on the programmes activities at national level. SAVE (Specific Actions for Vigorous Energy Efficiency) was adopted on 29 October 1991 by Council Decision 91/565/EEC (OJ No L 307 of 8.11.1991). It promotes energy efficiency and improved use of resources throughout the European Union. The programme supports: - Technical measures (definition of standards, cogeneration, house automation); - The promotion of third-party financing, taxes and other levies, and the development of national energy plans. Where appropriate, third countries can be associated with these SAVE actions; - Training and information on energy efficiency at a level as close as possible to the consumer; - Sectoral pilot projects; - Improved coordination between national, EU and international interests. The SAVE programme is described in a Communication from the Commission published in Official Journal No C 23 of 30.1.1992. Information on SAVE is also provided in the CORDIS RTD-Programmes database.
