SIGN-AIR introduces a technological solution to replace the manual creation and management of data-sharing contractual aspects between Transport Service Providers (TSPs). It offers a contract generator and manager that enables the streamlined, automated drafting, monitoring, and enforcement of Data Sharing Agreements (DSAs) and Smart Contracts (SCs), using predefined, regulation-compliant templates tailored to specific multimodality goals.

To support intermodal use cases, SIGN-AIR integrates 3 external modules:

-A synchronization module for calculating multimodal connectivity and proposing combined itineraries for single-ticketing options;
-A disruption management module (DMM) for proposing intermodal rerouting using real-time data;
-A data conversion module (such as TransiTool) to enhance interoperability between IATA SSIM, GTFS, and NeTEx standards.

By enabling contract-based collaboration, SIGN-AIR transforms the travel experience. It makes intermodal journeys seamless and reliable, enhancing access to airports, optimizing connection times, streamlining data sharing, and providing intermodal alternatives during disruptions—giving passengers confidence they’ll reach their destination with protected rights across all trip legs.

SIGN-AIR platform´s architecture has been designed and partially developed based on a robust technological framework to facilitate automated, secure, and regulation-compliant data-sharing agreements between TSPs. The project has successfully implemented a contract generation part of the platform, enabling the automated drafting, negotiation, and enforcement of DSAs and SCs. This ensures seamless collaboration across transport modes while reducing administrative burdens. The next steps are to finalize the settlement and monitoring part of the data sharing.

Key achievements include the integration of 3 external modules to enhance multimodal operations:

- The design and implementation of the Multimodal Synchronization Module: This module calculates connectivity between transport services, generating optimized, single-ticket itineraries by assessing schedules and transfer times.
- The design of DMM: By leveraging real-time data, the DMM proposes intermodal rerouting options during disruptions, improving passenger experience and operational resilience.
- The design of TransiTool extension: This component enhances interoperability between IATA SSIM, GTFS, and NeTEx standards, ensuring harmonized data exchange among air, rail, and ground transport systems.

Additionally, the project validated key functionalities through testing activities, including the SIGN-AIR connectivity index, contract templating and negotiation mechanisms, and the integration of disruption detection with real-time event classification. These advancements collectively enhance the efficiency and reliability of multimodal travel, paving the way for scalable and standardized intermodal cooperation.

SIGN-AIR pushes the boundaries of current transport integration by establishing a robust framework for data-driven decision-making and operational coordination. Unlike existing solutions, which often operate in silos, SIGN-AIR enables real-time, interoperable data exchange across different transport modes through standardized APIs and SC. This ensures seamless coordination between TSPs, improving travel efficiency and resilience.

A key innovation of SIGN-AIR is its multimodal event management framework, which proactively manages disruptions by leveraging real-time data and intermodal rerouting options. By integrating disruption management with contract-based collaboration, the platform minimizes passenger inconvenience while optimizing operational responses. Additionally, SIGN-AIR promotes single ticketing solutions by facilitating contractual agreements that define responsibility sharing among TSPs. This builds on existing passenger rights regulations and aligns with the proposed EU Directive on Mobility Packages, effectively providing a structured mechanism to enforce passenger protections across all trip legs.

By addressing legal, technical, and operational challenges in multimodal transport, SIGN-AIR sets a new standard for seamless, reliable, and passenger-centric mobility. Future steps will focus on expanding its adoption, integrating additional transport networks, and ensuring alignment with evolving regulatory frameworks.
