Objective
BIOLEAD brings together key European leaders in biotechnology and biomanufacturing to deliver a co-created, action-oriented roadmap with clear, evidence-based recommendations for the rapid adoption of bio-based solutions, accelerating the shift towards a climate-neutral bioeconomy. BIOLEAD will contribute to unlocking the full potential of biotechnology, strenghtening EU economy, sustainability and security, critical in a global context of intensifying competition, resource scarcity, security challenges and rapid technology transitions.
While previous projects have focused on addressing gaps and limitations identified for specific sectors or stakeholders, BIOLEAD goes beyond the state of the art via a holistic, systemic approach that fosters stakeholders alignment for accelerating market deployment of bio-based solutions. Built on a clear sequence of objectives spanning across the entire value chain (from feedstock to products and consumers), BIOLEAD unique added value lies on its distinctive positioning of biotechnology and biomanufacturing in terms of societal contribution, going beyond market-driven outcomes.
With tailored methods and communication channels, BIOLEAD will ensure effective key stakeholders' involvement to shape and disseminate a shared EU Vision and SRIA that will accelerate the uptake of bio-based solutions while supporting social well-being and enhanced environmental sustainability.
BIOLEAD will implement a three-step impact-oriented methodology designed to ensure a coherent progression from knowledge and evidence-based, co-creation activities, until delivering and implementation of the roadmap.
BIOLEAD’s long-term impacts span four main dimensions: environmental, economic, social and political; contributing to sustainable prosperity AND competitiveness in Europe, while positioning biotechnology and biomanufacturing as key drivers of a climate-neutral, resource-efficient bioeconomy.
