The most compact, efficient and lowest cost electric drive unit to accelerate adoption of electric vehicles

Objective

Electric vehicles today are blocked in their mass adoption because they don´t have enough range and they are too expensive. Automakers desperately need innovation to bridge that cost gap and reach the required driving range to fulfil customers´ demands. For that, they are looking at the component level and one of the key factors solving those two problems is the electric drive unit. However, current state-of-the-art cannot manage it within the physical limits.
DeepDrive is developing the Central Drive unit, the most compact (60kg, 25% lighter than state-of-the-art), powerful (40% higher torque density), efficient, (<15 Wh/Km losses for C-segment vehicles), and affordable (at least 15% cost reduction potential) electric drive unit, easily scalable and fitting into almost every electrical vehicle in the market. The core of our innovative concept is our patented Dual Rotor, Radial Flux technology which combines inner and outer runners in one single electrical machine, significantly reducing demand for active materials (50% less magnet material, 80% less laminated steel) with no need of heavy rare earth elements. This disruptive and easy-to-manufacture approach increases range by 15% compared to alternative electric drives, surpassing customers´ expectations.
DeepDrive is offering EU automakers a true differentiator to regain competitiveness in the EV segment. We have validated our technology on test benches and in vehicles. We are currently working with 8 of the 10 largest automotive manufacturers in the world. Leading OEMs have validated the Dual Rotor as the best available electric motor technology in terms of performance, efficiency and cost.
At DeepDrive, we are creating a highly scalable business with a clear path to become a €1B+ revenue-company by 2035.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
