Highly Efficient and Stable Organic Photovoltaic Indoor Sensors

Objective

SOLSTIS will develop a world-level core academic and industrial training program to train 15 doctoral candidates in dovetailed sciences and technologies, economics and sustainability, to deliver an exceptional range of research and transferrable skills that will have real-life impact. The training programme will develop a template for change in human-centric Internet-of-Things (IoT) production and positivise the commercial and environmental benefits of sustainability for the wider general public and schools.
SOLSTIS unites world-leading academics and industrialists in their fields from the CNRS, the Universities of Aston, Edinburgh, KAUST, Limoges, Louvain, Marseille, Oulu, Oxford, and Southern Denmark, and the companies CardLab, Innocell, Dracula Technologies, and Polar, with the support of the NRC, UPPA and VTT to develop revolutionary materials and technologies to remove toxic and polluting batteries from electronic goods while maintaining their cost effectiveness.
SOLSTIS will develop extremely high efficiency, industrially and environmentally viable organic photovoltaics and supercapacitors for energy storage from academic to industrial scales to deliver world-class leading technologies for security cards and health monitors, areas critical to demonstrating the viability of this technology. With commercially viable electronics from e-peas, and upscaling support from Brilliant Matters and Nano-C, SOLSTIS will demonstrate that batteries are not required for cutting-edge IoT. Translating this to a world-wide reach, SOLSTIS will use USP’s experience to widen its impact through citizen science and public interactions to deliver a mind-step that is required now in this critical infancy of exponentially growing IoT technology.
SOLSTIS will have a real impact in reducing air and environmental pollution, will create new employment and research opportunities and deliver an extremely well-trained Doctorates with the ambitions and knowledge to create a sustainable future.
