Objective
WINDOM (Wind Integrity aNd Durability through Offshore Monitoring) addresses a critical barrier to the large-scale deployment of offshore and floating wind energy: the lack of reliable, fatigue-relevant insight into the structural condition of key components. Current monitoring and maintenance strategies remain largely reactive, inspection-driven, and based on sparse or indirect data, leading to high operational costs, unplanned outages, and conservative lifetime assumptions.
WINDOM proposes a transformative shift towards intrinsically monitored offshore wind systems by integrating embedded structural sensing, resilient offshore data integration, physics- and AI-informed structural reconstruction, and operational digital twins. Optical-fibre and piezoelectric sensors are embedded directly within blades, towers, floating foundations, moorings, and dynamic cables, enabling continuous measurement of internal strain, vibration, and fatigue indicators. An offshore data integration centre preprocesses and securely transmits high-quality data to cloud-based platforms.
These data streams feed physics-informed digital twins that reconstruct full-field structural states from sparse measurements, estimate remaining useful life with quantified uncertainty, and support predictive, risk-based maintenance decision-making. The end-to-end framework will be experimentally validated at TRL 5 through scaled testing in a wave basin environment.
By enabling condition-driven maintenance, reducing unnecessary inspections, and mitigating high-consequence failures, WINDOM is expected to reduce costs, improve reliability and availability, and support lifetime extension of offshore wind assets. The project strengthens EU technology leadership in offshore wind digitalisation.

Net EU financial contribution. The sum of money that the participant receives, deducted by the EU contribution to its linked third party. It considers the distribution of the EU financial contribution between direct beneficiaries of the project and other types of participants, like third-party participants.
