Integrating self supply into end use for sustainable tourism - target action C

Objective

Specific objectives: to develop and apply a new Concept of sustainable community, in a hotel resort, owned by a community of 230 Madeira-born residents; to install an innovative energy system, including integration of NRES and the use of energy efficiency in buildings; to integrate efficient water desalination and wastewater treatment, solid waste management and landscape study; to elaborate a mobility plan; to create a site of permanent exhibition of innovative technologies for sustainable communities; to develop a web site with a virtual guided visit; to elaborate a plan for replication of the sustainable communities concept.

General objectives: to demonstrate the economic and social benefits of a energy mix and appropriated technologies for water supply, solid waste management and transport system; to reduce the impact of tourism on energy and water demand; to enable socio-economic development of insular communities; to increase public awareness of clean energy technologies;
