Objective Aims of the project: Improving auditory communications within steelworks with particular reference to developing guidelines for the selection of auditory signal sets for use in areas of high noise. Methods: Theoretical and laboratory based comparisons of two methods for predicting signal audibility. On site comparison of the two methods with direct measurements of signal audibilities using steelworks operatives and typical steelworks noise. Identification of problems associated with existing signal sets. Development of guidelines for the selection of auditory signals.
