Resumen del contexto y de los objetivos generales del proyecto

Learning to Sleep is an online solution for helping people affected by insomnia and poor sleep. Bad sleep affects many people in the developed world. The stress of daily life and work affects sleep patterns, which in turn have an impact on work performance and quality of life. Given that pharmacological solution such as sleeping pills are not effective and harbour many side effects, whereas sleep therapy is very expensive, there are few avenues for people to seek help. Learning2Sleep is an online treatment developed by sleep experts versed in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. It helps people get better anytime and anywhere through a therapeutic program available on mobile devices and the web.

The core objective of this feasibility assessment was to develop a business plan, that will guide the development of our company. The study also aimed at outlining and scheduling all steps required to close the gap between the current development stage and successful commercialization of Learning to Sleep treatment.

The feasibility study has shown, that Learning to Sleep demonstrates a strong commercial potential. The main conclusion, derived from this study, is that there exists a clear business opportunity to exploit the digital healthcare market. Thus, due to the significant market size, this provides a unique and lucrative opportunity for Learning to Sleep AB.

To prepare for market entry, we have conducted market scale-up studies in Germany, France and Spain, estimating the required costs related to technology development, engaging with local therapists and ensuring legal compliance. We have evaluated the European landscape for B2B2C partners in the private sector (private insurers) and searched for the ways of raising the awareness of our treatment in the three selected countries. The analysis of reimbursement trends in Germany, France and Spain helped us to understand these markets better and adapt our strategy accordingly. Through these efforts, we were able to determine the conditions for the future, the successful development of our company.

Overall, this study allowed us to prepare a solid plan, enabling reaching our financial and commercialisation targets, aligned with the overall business development strategy of the company.

Based on the huge amount of patient data that the project will produce, we expect that Learning to Sleep in the future will be one of the leading centres for knowledge around sleep. Future use of AI and machine learning will create the ability to develop automated sleep treatment for those who have light to medium sleeping problems. This will have a great socio-economic impact since bad sleep is now one of 10 issues on the WHO list of health hazards. Thus, providing a cost-efficient, automated sleep treatment will give:

- Better overall health since better sleep will positively affect other diseases;
- Higher productivity since bad sleep affects productivity;
- Lower costs for health care.

Until today Learning to Sleep has treated over 2000 patients in Sweden with good results. The societal impact of this is estimated (based on the above) to 12 million euros.
