Objective
The project has reached a number of achievements:
complete CIM machine for pantyhose defect detection including mechanical components and vision sensors has been developed.
a multisensor vision system to detect defects in the manufacturing pantyhose operations, in real time. The system is based in a set of vision sensor heads, an electronic board, a microprocessor and several software modules.
a small sensor based on a linear camera and a laser for illumination, suitable to be incorporated in complex machines and very close to the movement of the manufacturing material. The sensor includes hardware and software modules.
an electronic board to do the image preprocessing tasks in real time.
a software module to detect diverse defects at specific locations in the textile machines.
elements in a mechanical machine S3 Baby to do the loading and toe-closing operation as well as the real time inspection in the leg defects.
The system is presently being tested in real conditions and an industrial marketable multisensor vision system machine is being studied.
The main objective of this project is to built up an integrated unit to automatically perform the pantyhose finishing by linking the already existing separated operation stations while providing an on line quality control in order to fully automatize the whole process.
The major research tasks are :
- Developing mechanical and electronic interfaces to link the stations.
- Developing precision mechanics to handle flexible material during manufacturing and inspection stations from the know-how of partner B.
- Developing sensory equipment to detect in process operation defects.
- Developing computer vision algorithms to control quality of the pantyhose being manufactured. More in particular competitive, complementary and co-operative integration as already in use in robotics will be applied.
Successful competition of the integrated unit with quality control for the pantyhose manufacturing should result in a reduction from 2.5% to 0.3% in the defective pantyhose production. This accounts for a reduction of a 94% of the current defective garment reoperation cost.
