ARCTIC OPERATIONAL PLATFORM

Objective

Development of ice information collection and forecasting methods to a level of aship based route selection tool. Research in international law rules andregulations to be able to achieve a commonly accepted legal and regulatoryframework. Development of an integrated marine transportation system for the NSRwith required infrastructure to the level where the economics of scale can be seenand the requirements for human and environmental safety can be fully understood.Development of environmental protection and management system for the Arctic tothe level where the requirements for precautions and monitoring canbe seen andthe capability of modern technology can be fully understood. The demonstrationpart aims to point out the present problems and to validate the results of the RTDpart of the project. The Steering Group and Workshop Activity serve as a discussionand dissemination platform for the interested parties and aims in creation of apermanent discussion and action forum.
