Objective
BAGECO-7 will present the most recent research in the interdisciplinary context of bacterial genetics and microbial ecology. Focus will be on the application and implementation of novel techniques and basic knowledge on genomic and bio informatics on environmental microbiology and biotechnology. It has a scientific committee with members from 10 European countries and most of the participants come from EU and associated countries. BAGECO-7 will take place in Bergen, Norway, 15-19 June 2002 with approximately 200 participants and 8 invited speakers. Main topics are related to environmental biotechnology incl. use of GMO and risk assessment, molecular approaches to analyse bacterial community structure and function. Phage and plastid molecular ecology and horizontal gene transfer. The symposium should stimulate contact, improve research quality and provide additional value by increasing European co-operation in the field.
